Gavin Poole

Gavin Poole is the CEO of iCITY London which is planning to turn the Press and Broadcast Centres on the Olympic Park into a technology innovation centre. Formerly he was Director of the Centre for Social Justice, an independent think tank that was founded to put social justice at the heart of politics. Gavin served over 23 years in the Royal Air Force, holding many command and leadership appointments. His last military appointment was as an advisor to the last government’s defence team.

Dato Dr. Kim Tan

Dato Kim is the Chairman of SpringHill Management Ltd, a venture capital fund management company specialising in life sciences and social venture capital investing. He is a co-founder of the Transformational Business Network (UK), a charity which supports projects in developing countries that create jobs and transform communities, and the sponsor of the Kuzuko Game Reserve (South Africa). He is a director of a number of listed and private biotech, pharmaceutical and investment companies in the UK, USA, India, Malaysia and South Africa. He is an advisor to a number of government agencies in Asia on biotechnology and a board member of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Life Science Forum. He is a former director of Saracens Rugby Club and the co-author of ‘Fighting Poverty through Enterprise’. He has a PhD in biochemistry and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (UK). He was conferred the title ‘Dato’ by the Penang State Government in 2006.

James Perry

James, with his brother, has spent the last 11 years building their social hearted business, COOK (www.cookfood.net), which now employs around 400 people and is rolling out nationally. He is also CEO of Panahpur, a UK foundation and leading Impact Investor which won the Angel Social Impact Investment of the Year Award at the British Business Angel Association annual awards 2011.

Mark Cheng

Mark is the founder of Chelwood Capital, a social investment firm which advises and invests in organizations creating high social impact. He is also a senior advisor on social finance at Ashoka, the global network of leading social entrepreneurs. Mark is a former investment banker with 14 years’ experience in finance. He is passionate about creating opportunities for young people, and is advisor to several leading youth development organizations, including Partnerships for Youth Empowerment (PYE) and Be! An Entrepreneur. He is a founding mentor at the Emerge Venture Lab.

Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms

The Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham, has been Labour’s Shadow Employment Minister since September 2010. He entered Parliament in 1994. He was appointed Financial Secretary to the Treasury three times, and was appointed to the Cabinet post of Chief Secretary to the Treasury from May 2006 – June 2007. He held other ministerial roles for 12 years from 1998 in the Labour Government, including as Minister for Employment at the DWP. Since June 2007, Stephen has also been the first Labour Party Vice Chair for Faith Groups. He worked in the telecommunications industry and as Leader of Newham Council before entering Parliament, and has lived in East Ham since 1979.
