Friday 11th November saw us host our annual Spear Party, and we’re delighted to announce that we raised over £300,000. The evening was ‘Neverland’ themed, with our very own patron, Miranda Hart, opening the evening as Tinkerbell.
280 guests joined us for the evening – including Jeremy Vine – bidding on a variety of live and silent auctions to raise money for the Spear programme. We were pleased to also be joined by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, as well as some fantastic ballet dancers who added to our magical Peter Pan theme.
Catherine from Spear Bethnal Green was the focus of our film this year. Having struggled with depression for several years, Catherine had found it very difficult to look for work and had lost confidence in her ability. In the film, she talks about the importance of learning about resilience on the Spear programme and said that ‘resilience has helped me a lot because I’m able to push past any obstacles I come across’. Catherine is now working for The Egg Free Cake Box as a Cake Decorator, and said, ‘Life for me now is so much better than it was before – I’m doing my dream job, I recently got discharged from therapy, so I’m really proud of myself and where I’ve come and it’s all thanks to Spear’.
